Had a bl**dy great morning in Hove. For the first time in ages, the wind woke me up in the night. Bit odd as it wasnt expected to be that strong. After showing my face at work, got to beach at 9am. Wind was almost cross shore from the right. Tide on the push so decent sized shorebreak, meaning good sized swell further out. Nothing huge, but looked fun. Rigged a 5.5m flat on the wave board and it was just right. Straight out and first gybe was onto good swell lump that reared up for three big S turns down the line, with the wave only breaking near the top, nice and easy. Kept on the same swell and rode it again on the inside, not closing out, just steepening nicely, pulled an 'in the straps' gybe on the face of the shorebreak and back out for more. Waves about shoulder high, felt bigger where they steepened up in deep water. After an hour the wind eased a bit, probably swinging to W but still found some nice shorebreak rides etc. and enough wind still to plane.
